Lane Bestold is an emerging textile artist based in Seattle, WA. His work is inspired by his surroundings, unusual textures, vibrant colors, and a fervent commitment to creating an abundant life. Lane is queer transman who pushes against traditional stereotypes of masculinity through his self-taught practice of sewing, quilting, and evoking literal and figurative softness in his pieces. The materials he uses are proudly sourced second hand, lending more character and depth to each design while sparking conversations around change and sustainability. Lane sees genuine value in discarded textiles like woven baby blankets, vintage deadstock. fabric, mesh, bedsheets and sweatshirt scraps and meticulously manipulates them into dynamic quilts and large scale, abstract pieces that draw viewers in with their bold colorways and layers of texture. Lane finds joy in creating work in beloved third places such as neighborhood coffeeshops or among friends in a communal atmosphere. His work has been commissioned privately as well as by Cloudburst Brewing (2024) and featured prominently in the group show STÖR (Seattle, 2024).
