Sound is a large-format linocut collaboration by artists Saiyare Refaei and Yoshi Nakagawa, originally created for the Tacoma Wayzgoose Print Festival in spring, 2025. The work was collaboratively designed and cut and features various sounds of the Puget Sound region. In August 2025, Saiyare and Yoshi created a limited series of just 20 prints at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle. This patchwork hexagonal design mimics quilting patterns and includes elements of the artists' Chinese, Iranian and Japanese heritages.

Saiyare Refae (they/she)
Saiyare Refaei is a Chinese Iranian artist based in Tacoma, Washington. Their mediums are largely comprised of community murals, printmaking and meticulous pointillism drawings. Saiyare strives to utilize art as a means of community building, education and healing. They enjoy working collaboratively and being a conduit to visualize the stories that need to be told in our communities.
Yoshi Nakagawa (she/her)
Yoshi Nakagawa is a Tacoma-based visual artist, specializing in printmaking since 1999. She pulled her first print at the University of Puget Sound, and honed her craft in Seattle and Oaxaca, Mexico. Her artwork is influenced by patterns of the natural world and Japanese textiles, along with her experiences living in Oaxaca, Japan, and the Pacific Northwest. She has exhibited and taught workshops regionally and internationally.
