Commissioned by the Store in 2024,  kwonny uses their signature technique incorporating acrylic washes to depict the animal subjects here fighting within their predator-prey relationship.

kwonny (she/her b.1988, New York) is a Korean-American artist living and working in Seattle. Her mixed media works live increasingly in an abstract figurative world, a reflection of a nomadic upbringing where she grew up in-between identities and communities, simultaneously seeking grounding and belonging and yet still comfortably inhabiting the out-of-place. This state of flux and lifelong liminality is explored through animal and mythic subjects, and within a practice involving collage and a technique manipulating acrylic paint to evoke watercolor properties, suspending the paints in their movement across the canvas. She began making digital art in 2020 while living in Australia with her partner and started painting in 2022. Recent work includes a solo exhibition at ArtsWest, Seattle, a publication at Cultural Studies, Colorado and a commission for Zadig & Voltaire, Paris.
