This catalogue was published by the Frye Art Museum in conjunction with its exhibition Path of the Sun: The World of Teng Hiok Chiu (February 14–May 11, 2003).
Teng Hiok Chiu fuses Eastern and Western sensibilities to paint his interpretations of the world, including scenes of Africa, America, Asia, Indonesia, and Europe. The affinities between Eastern and Western art practices during this period were partially based on mutual aspirations to represent the perceptual experiences of both the artist and viewer.
This publication includes an artist biography, essays by Kazimierz Z. Poznaski and Debra J. Byrne with Chinese translations by Victor Kai Wang, along with an exhibition checklist, and full color illustrations of the exhibition artworks.
