This catalogue was published by the Frye Art Museum in conjunction with its exhibition Melville Holmes: Old Master Dialogues (October 2–November 29, 1998).
The paintings of Melville Holmes are reminiscent of the timeless work of Rembrandt. His work looks at what has remained constant among the thematic changes in art since the Baroque period. Holmes employs subject matter that cannot be strictly dated but might apply to any time.
This publication includes an artist statement along with color illustrations of the exhibition artwork and an exhibition checklist.
