Vetiver pushes back against the dangerous walls that attempt to other our primordial heritage. Code switching and dismantling picket fences are Baker's forte. These 29 poems carry us forward and remind us that the monsters aren’t under our bed and that there’s no single story. She wants you to remember: “the spirit of war is not your spirit,” and that, “when we are surviving, spilling, losing our mask(s)/ is when we should be seen.” These poems induce elevation and celebrate cultural memory. – Mike “the PoeT” Sonksen, author
