This volume was published by the Frye Art Museum in conjunction with its exhibition Ginnungagap: Recent Work by Sigrid Sandström (May 26–September 10, 2006).

Ginnungagap is the first full-scale museum exhibition of Swedish artist Sigrid Sandström. The term ginnungagap meaning “seeming emptiness” is used in Norse mythology to describe the void between the land of eternal ice and that of eternal flame. This exhibition includes a dramatic Kent oil painting Resurrection Bay, Alaska (1939) from the Frye’s permanent collection, offering a point of reference for Sandström’s vast uncharted wilderness and humanity’s voracious dreams of its conquest.

This catalogue includes a foreword by Midge Bowman, essays by Robin Held and Jaimey Hamilton, and an interview with Sigrid Sandström by Robin Held along with full color illustrations of the exhibition artwork, exhibition checklist, and artist biography.
